There are so many stories in this image but the one that only I would see is the story of then and now. He is the third of three boys and these pjs were worn for a first time about seven years ago. But, this is more than a story of hand me downs. It is a reminder of how far we have traveled.
My oldest was around this age when we were in the messy middle of multiple miscarriages and I have distinct memory of after one such doctors visit we stopped at Toys R Us to buy Garrett new pjs to replace the ones he had grown out of. I remember going overboard. I remember not caring. I remember only wanting to cherish the gift I had been given instead of getting lost in the ones that were taken away.
When I see Travis, seven years later in the small things that gave me comfort in some of my darkest days, I see my hope realized. And the beauty is, he accepts these third hand clothes with an open heart and even asks if one day such and such will get to be his. How little does he know that once upon a time I asked the same question as I carefully packed these things away for someday.
